Weekly Plans - Week 37 (June 3-7)

Happy June!

This is our last month of school - and let me tell you, it's going to be a busy one!

Here's a look at our centres this week:

Can you design a bee at the Playdough Centre?

Can you fix the CVC word? Which letter is missing?

In our Sensory Bin, we filled it with water and these Really Big Buttons from Roylco.

You can find the buttons from Quality Classrooms.

We added ladles and strainers, along with these colourful bowls, for students to make "Button Soup".

In our fine motor small group mini lesson this week, students drew different lines on scrap paper and will be cutting them using scissors.

What does your dad look like? We are getting ready for Father's Day!

Last week we learned all about probability!

We set up this Flip a Coin activity at one table for students to explore the concept even more.

At our Science and Discovery Centre, we are continuing to observe our flowers grow.

We planted them last week!

Here's a fun spatial awareness centre...use these 1" cubes to build a structure on the grid!

We set this up with Rebecca Moore's (Moore to Love In Kinder) free picture cards!

At our Pocket Chart Centre, we will be focusing on digraphs and have students sort the cards (sorry - forgot to take a picture but it looks like this):

Our focus in math this week is on symmetry!

This is a fun unit - lots of hands-on activities and centres to practice!

Students can use the pattern blocks to create the symmetrical half of the picture.

Letters of the alphabet are folded in half and students have to guess what the letter is before opening it up.

This game can played with a partner - make a design on a grid and your partner has to copy it.

Or use the templates and copy them!

Explore symmetry using a folded paper and hole puncher!

Weekly Plans - Week 36 (May 27-31)

It's the end of May already!

You can see by my weekly plans how busy this time of year gets as we start planning our fun Kindergarten Growing Celebration next month and begin to wrap up our year together.

Last week we learned about Mother Mary and worked on a directed drawing of her.

Our game this week is called "Battle Rubik's Cube".

Retelling the story Jump, Frog, Jump at the Felt Board.

Our students helped to set up a Flower Shop at the Dramatic Play Centre.

Find everything you need to set this up by clicking the picture below.

We set out ocean animals in our Sensory Bin.

We will be exploring seeds and starting to plant at our Science and Discovery Table.

Our students set up our Small World Play area this week using roads and cars.

In our small group mini lessons, students needing work on letter/sound identification will be playing Roll-and-Read -> roll the die, say the corresponding letter name and sound it makes.

If anyone is working on kindergarten report cards (Communication of Learning) in the next few weeks, I updated my HUGE pack to include additional end of year report card samples by request!

In math we will be focusing on probability for the next couple of weeks.

We will be playing Flip a Coin in small groups.

As we learn new probability words we will be sorting cards under the correct headers.

We will also be completing this reader all about probability!

Weekly Plans - Week 35 (May 20-24)

It's the Victoria Day long weekend here in Canada and so far the weather has been beautiful. In fact, tomorrow is warming up so much I *may* just have to take a dip in the pool (hence why I'm posting this today and taking the next two days off HA!)

Last week we explored colour mixing by introducing primary and secondary colours.

We used coloured water and eye droppers to mix primary colours and see what happens! The students LOVED this!

We are continuing with our Colour Inquiry by making our own paint colours using the primary colours in a squirt bottle.

We also sang along to the Hail Mary and followed a directed drawing of Mother Mary.

At our Sensory Bin, we filled it with water and added loose parts (jewels, rocks, etc.). We left out a variety of bottles, measuring cups/spoons and funnels to explore capacity.
